Ready to go!

Joanna's got her New Zealand visa! Brilliant. We were thinking we'd have to fly back to pick it up, but it came through in double quick time - go New Zealand Immigration! (yes, we're disorganised as ever)
So we went in and picked up today, all nicely printed in Joanna's passport. And we're ready to go. Or at least we will be once we've finished (& indeed started) packing tonight. Tomorrow we head off for a family weekend, so everything has to be done by then. We head straight to France from there on Monday. We just need to buy a camp stove in the morning (we've a little one, but for this I think we can justify something a bit better for a journey like this).

Oh yes, we sent out an email to friends yesterday for those who want mass emails every 2-4 weeks along the way. But in our recent transferals of email addresses from machine to machine we're pretty sure we've lost an email address or 3 - email us if you want the mass emails and we missed you off the list (sorry). Thanks to those who've already replied.

Righty we better go pack.

Ben - the international drink challenge. We need photographic evidence of a national drink being consumed in each country that you pass through. I've compiled a list to help you. And having compiled it (check out Kazahkstan) I feel it is only fair that you consume at least a swig, but beyond that, well, it's your funeral. Here's the suggested booze route along the Clio route that you're driving:
FRANCE - champagne (celebrating the start of the journey);
SPAIN - cava;
PORTUGAL - port;
SPAIN (again) - sherry (fino);
MOROCCO - whisky berbere (it's actually mint tea - Muslim country not too keen on booze);
SPAIN (again) - sangria;
FRANCE (again) - pastis (anise-based spirit special to the south);
ITALY - limoncello (lemon liquor);
SLOVENIA - medeno zganje (known as "medica", a slovene brandy sweetened with honey);
CROATIA - Pelinkovac (bitter herbal liquor, sounds really nice...);
SERBIA - slivov vitz (distilled plum juice);
BULGARIA - rakia (clear grape brandy);
GREECE - ouzo;
TURKEY - raki;
BULGARIA (again) - mastika and oblak (mixed - enjoy!);
ROMANIA - sweet cherry palinca;
UKRAINE - horilka with pepper;
HUNGARY - palinka (fruit liquor);
SLOVAKIA - Borovicka (gin);
POLAND - Zubrowka (vodka flavoured with bison grass);
RUSSIA - erm, vodka?;
LITHUANIA - samane (vodka);
LATVIA - Balsam - Rigas Melnais Balzams (has roots in it);
ESTONIA - Vana Talinn (rum-like liquor);
RUSSIA - erm, more vodka;
KAZAKHSTAN - kumyran (Shubat - fermented camel's milk);
CHINA - Baijiu (sorghum-based spirit);
LAOS - lao-lao (rice liquor);
THAILAND - Mae Khong Thai whisky;
MALAYSIA - teh tarik (pulled tea - another Muslim state, another non-alcoholic drink);
SINGAPORE - a singapore sling, of course!

Cheer!
