(30 August - 1 September)
We stopped for a couple of days in a camping ground in Levoca, near the Slovakian Tatra mountains. The nice man at the campsite gave us a very "small wooden house" for the same price as the tent. It wasn't much bigger, but it was solid and we could stand up to put our underwear on.
The first day we had a wander in the foothills around Levoca, in preparation for a bigger hike the next day.
You'll note that we're no longer in our vests and shorts. A short time span between Romania and Slovakia, but a big temperature gap.
The name of the peak that we climbed we unfortunately can't find right now, it's in a map in the car across town. But it was over 2300m. It was a good 6 hours up and down.
There were chains to get up/across some rocks, so we got actions shots of Joanna. Not bad for a pregnant lady:
It was a well worn path and there were enough other people going to make us feel confident despite the inclement weather. But when we got to the top:
Or at least within a few metres of it (the last bit needed climbing equipment & better weather) we suddenly discovered there was nothing on the other side... well, a chain down into the mist. But it was only about 5m down and then it was an easier path:
As is the way, once we'd finished our walk through the mist and rain and had no view from the top ... the weather cleared.
Great fun, but maybe the last mountain we climb for about 5/6 months.
